Playing with Newcomers

When I first started playing I didn’t even know how to hold a paddle. It took a lot of patience and time from others around me to teach me the game. Letting me play with them, showing me techniques, taking time out of their own games to explain what dinking is! If it wasn’t for the friendliness and overall welcoming disposition, I probably would have given up! Obviously we all strive to be better players, meaning spending time playing with our level and getting in some super competitive games. But I’m curious… now that Pickleball has grown so much, how do people approach newcomers? Are we all spending a little bit of time welcoming them? Are we sticking with our own level only or do we play a game or two with new faces? Perhaps we have days that are strictly for competitive play and other days we go to open play and engage with that couple sitting ..at the end of the bench, wooden paddles in hand, not a clue as to how they get a game...what Are everyone’s thoughts?
